Join the mailing list to get updates: Mailing List Bem-vindo! Dev and Beth visited Brazil in March of 2009 to see the mines, the minerals, and learn how to do business in there. We had an amazing trip! This all started with an international business class Dev was taking for his graduate degree. Dev chose to do his paper on the gemstone industry of Brazil. While we were in Brazil, he had the opportunity to meet with people from many different aspects of the gem industry. Garimpeiros, miners, mine managers,mine owners, dealers, jewelers, exporters, were among the people he interviewed. A secondary function of our trip was to select beautiful gem rough for PrettyRock.com. Finally we also had the pleasure of learning about the Brazilian culture, seeing beautiful cities, and meeting many wonderful people. We spent the majority of our time in Teofilo Otoni and then spent a couple of days in Ouro Preto the only source of imperial topaz. Brazil is known for many minerals, imperial topaz, plain ole topaz, paraiba tourmaline, plain ole tourmaline, emerald, aquamarine, beryl of every color, quartz of every variety, garnet, alexandrite, sapphire, diamond, and many others.
